NOTE:
When the starter mechanism malfunctions,

8 Do not turn the main switch to
“START”when the engine is running.
8 Do not keep the starter-motor turning
for more than 5 seconds with the main
switch in the “START” position. If the
engine does not start within 5 seconds,
return the main switch to“ON”, wait 10
seconds, and then crank the engine
again. (If the starter-motor is run con-
tinuously for more than 5 seconds, the
battery will rapidly become exhausted
and it will be impossible for the starter-
motor to start the engine.)
7) Return the neutral throttle lever slow-
ly to its home position so that the
engine does not stall.
8) After the engine starts, return the
emergency starter valve (if used) to
“CLOSE”.
w
When starting or operating the engine,
do not touch the ignition coil, high volt-
age wire, spark plug cap or other electri-
cal parts carrying high voltage. Keep
loose clothing and other objects away
from the engine when starting it with an
emergency starter rope. An unguarded
rotating flywheel is very dangerous. Do
not attempt to replace the top cowling
when the engine is running. Proceed at
once to the nearest port to get the engine
repaired. Take care to prevent water
splashing onto the flywheel.
