2. Check that the battery is in good condi-
tion and fully charged. If your boat is
equipped with the digital speedometer or
Command Link tachometer, the voltme-
ter and low battery alert functions will help
you monitor the batterys charge. If the
battery needs charging, consult your
Yamaha dealer.
3. Check that the battery connections are
clean, secure, and covered by insulating
covers. WARNING! Bad connections
can produce shorting or arcing and
cause an explosion.

Connecting the battery

Mount the battery holder securely in a dry,
well-ventilated, vibration-free location in
the boat. Install a fully charged battery in
the holder.

Do not reverse the battery cables. Other-
wise, the electrical parts could be dam-
aged.
1. Check that the main switch is turned to
the “” (off) position before working on
the battery.
2. Connect the positive battery cable (red)
to the positive (+) terminal first. Then,
connect the negative battery cable
(black) to the negative (-) terminal.
3. The electrical contacts of the battery and
cables must be clean and properly con-
nected, or the battery will not start the en-
gine.

Disconnecting the battery
1. Turn off the battery cut-off switch (if
equipped) and main switch. NOTICE: If
they are left on, the electrical system
can be damaged.

2. Disconnect the negative battery cable
(black) from the negative (-) terminal.
NOTICE: Always disconnect the nega-
tive battery cable (black) first to avoid
a short circuit and damage to the elec-
trical system.

3. Disconnect the positive battery cable
(red) from the positive (+) terminal and re-
move the battery from the boat.
4. Clean, maintain, and store the battery ac-
cording to the manufacturers instruc-
tions.
