2. Drain the cooling water completely out of
the outboard motor. Clean the body thor-
oughly.

Lubrication
1. Change the gear oil. For instructions, see
page 78. Check the gear oil for the pres-
ence of water that indicates a leaky seal.
Seal replacement should be performed
by an authorized Yamaha dealer prior to
use.
2. Lubricate all grease fittings. For further
details, see page 72.

For long-term storage, fogging the engine
with fogging oil is recommended. Contact
your Yamaha dealer for information about
fogging oil and procedures for your outboard
motor.

Cleaning and anticorrosion measures
1. Wash the exterior of the outboard motor
using fresh water, and then dry the out-
board motor completely. For instructions
on cleaning the outboard motor, see
page 65. NOTICE: Do not spray water
into the air intake.

2. Spray the outboard motor powerhead
with Yamaha Silicone Protectant.
3. Wax the cowling with a non-abrasive wax
such as Yamaha Silicone Wax.

Flushing cooling water passage
Perform this procedure right after operation
for the most thorough flushing.
NOTICE

Do not perform this procedure while the
engine is running. The water pump may be
damaged and severe damage from over-
heating can result.
1. Disconnect the garden hose connector
from the fitting on the bottom cowling.
2. Connect the garden hose to the garden
hose connector.
