#30116 - MAST FLOAT “BABY BOB” FOR
HOBIE14 & HOBIE16
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
WAVE MAST FLOAT FOR HOBIE 14 OR HOBIE 16
There are 4 possible installations for the Wave Mast Float to the Hobie 14 or 16. Be sure to follow the
applicable instructions. Every Wave Mast Float comes with the mounting bracket already installed to the
float. All that remains to be done is to attach the mast float by following the proper installation to mast head
instruction.
1. Hobie 14 with Comp Tip Mast Head. This mast uses the same mast head as the Hobie Wave. All that
needs to be done is to remove the two clevis pins holding the two sheaves in place and replace them
with the 2 each 10-32x1 1/2" machine screws. Remove one clevis pin, slide the Mast Float and Bracket
over the mast head, align a set of screw holes and install the screw. Take caution not to allow the sheave
to slip out of the casting. Should it fall out it is possible that the sleeve/sheave bearing will be lost. Repeat
for the second sheave.
2. & 3. Hobie 14 and Hobie 16 without Comp Tip Mast Head. Tools required are a number 20 drill, a 10-
32 tap and a drill motor. Place the Mast Float and Bracket over the mast head casting such that the
centerline of the float is perpendicular to the center line of the mast. Make a mark on the casting at each
of the 4 holes in the bracket. Remove the bracket and drill and tap the 4 holes. Caution: Avoid drilling
into the sheave if possible. Using the 4 each 10-32 by 5/16" screws and lock washers secure the Mast
Float to the mast head. The Hobie 16 mast head casting is narrower then the Hobie 14 and it will therefore
require that the ears on the bracket be bent in.
4. Hobie 16 with Comp Tip Mast Head. Tools required are a 3/16" drill and a drill motor. Remove the rivet
that holds the front sheave in place using the 3/16" drill. Install the Mast Float and Bracket to the mast
head using one of the 10-32x1 1/2" screws and nuts. Mark a place on the bracket ear per the below
sketch and drill a 3/16" hole all of the way through the bracket ears and mast head. Install the second
10-32x1 1/2 screw and nut with the two washers on either side of the mast head to take up gap.
