Procedure
NOTE:
A diagnostic tachometer should be used for
this procedure.
1) Start the engine and allow it to warm up
fully in Neutral until it is running smooth-
ly.
If the outboard is mounted on a boat, be
sure the boat is tightly moored.
2) Adjust the throttle stop-screw to set the
idling speed to specification (see
“SPECIFICATIONS”) by turning the
stop-screw clockwise to increase the
idling speed, and turning it counterclock-
wise to decrease the idling speed.
NOTE:
Correct idling-speed adjustment is only pos-
sible if the engine is fully warmed-up. If not
warmed up fully, the speed setting will tend
to be too high.
If you have difficulty obtaining the specified
idle, consult a Yamaha dealer or other qual-
ified mechanic.

CHECKING WATER TRAP UNDER
ENGINE OIL TANK
There is a trap at the bottom of the engine
oil tank. If water or foreign matter is visible
in this trap, consult a Yamaha dealer.
