2.2.3 eSATA
External Serial Advanced Technology Attachment (eSATA) serves as an external
interface for SATA technologies. For customers who want fast (up to 1.5Gbit/s), easy-
to-use external storage that has advanced features such as S.M.A.R.T. (Self-
Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology) protection, eSATA may be a good
choice.
eSATA devices are not bootable when BIOS is set to RAID mode and are not supported
as a part of Virtual Disks when in RAID mode for S100.
To operate eSATA devices in the Red Hat
®
Enterprise Linux
®
4.8 environment, the BIOS
mode must be manually switched from default (AHCI mode) to ATA mode.
