Optical disc drives
The computer may be installed with a DVD-ROM or DVD Super Multi drive.
When the computer is accessing a CD/DVD, an indicator on the drive
glows.
Some models are equipped with an optical disc drive.
For information on loading and unloading discs refer to the Using optical
disc drives section in Chapter 4, Operating Basics.
Writable discs
This section describes the types of writable CD/DVD discs. Check the
specifications of your drive to see the types of discs it can write. Use
TOSHIBA Disc Creator to write compact discs. Refer to Chapter 4,
Operating Basics.
CDs
■ CD-R discs can be written only once. The recorded data cannot be
erased or changed.
■ CD-RW discs including multi speed CD-RW discs, high-speed CD-RW
discs and ultra-speed CD-RW discs can be recorded more than once.
DVDs
■ DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-R (Dual Layer) and DVD+R (Double Layer) discs
can be written only once. The recorded data cannot be erased or
changed.
■ DVD-RW, DVD+RW and DVD-RAM discs can be recorded more than
once.
Formats
The drives support the following formats.
DVD-ROM drive
The drive supports the formats CD-ROM, DVD-ROM, DVD-Video, CD-DA,
CD-Text, Photo CD
TM
(single/multi-session), CD-ROM Mode 1, Mode 2,
CD-ROM XA Mode 2 (Form1, Form2), Enhanced CD (CD-EXTRA) and
Addressing Method 2.
DVD Super Multi drive Double Layer
The drive supports the formats in addition to the DVD-ROM&CD-R/RW
drive, and DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW, DVD-RAM, DVD-R DL
(Format1), DVD+R DL.
Some types and formats of DVD-R DL and DVD+R DL discs may be
unreadable.
