ENGINE EM ISSIO NS INFORM ATION
NO TE: Maintenance, re placem ent, or
repair of the em ission co ntrol devices
and systems may be performed by any
marine SI (spark ignition) engine repa ir
establishments or individ ua l.

Responsibility
Beginn ing with 1999 model year en-
gines, PWC m a nufac t urers of marine
engines must determine the ex ha us t
emission levels for eac h engine hors e-
power family and certify these engines
with the United States of America En-
vironmen tal Protectio n Agency ( EPA).
An emiss ions contro l informa tion label,
showing emission levels and engine
specifications, must be pl aced on each
vehicle at the time of manufacture.
Dealer's Re sponsibility
When performin g service on all 1999
and more recen t Sea-Doo watercraft
that carry an emissions control infor-
mation label, adjustments must be
kept w ithin published factory specifi-
cations.
Replacement or repair of any em ission
related co mponent m us t be exe cu t ed
in a manner that m a intain s emission
levels within the prescribed certifica-
tion standards.
Dealers are not to m odify the engine in
any mann er that would alter the horse-
power or all ow emission levels to ex-
ceed their predetermined fact ory spec-
ifications.
Exceptions include manufacturer's
prescribed changes, su ch as altitu de
adjustments for example.
Ow ner Responsibility
The owner/operator is require d to have
engine maintenanc e performed to
maintain emission levels within pre-
scribed certification standards.
The owner/operator is not to, and
should not allow a nyone to modify the
engine in any manner that would alter
the horsepower or allow emissions
levels to exceed their predetermined
factory specifications.
EPA Emissi on R egulatio ns
All 1999 and more recent Sea-Doo
watercraft manufa c tured by BR P are
certified to the EPA as conforming to
the requirements of the regulations for
the control of air pollution from new
watercraft engines. This certification
is contingent on certain adjustments
being set to factory standards. For
this reaso n, the factory procedure for
servicing the product must be strictly
followed and, wheneve r practicable,
returned to the original intent of the
design.
The re sponsibilities listed above are
general and in no wa y a com plete list-
ing of the rules and re gulations per-
taining to the EPA requirements on ex-
haust emissions fo r marine prod ucts.
