One Star – Low Emission
The one-star labe l identifies persona l watercraft, outboard, stern drive and inboard
engines that meet the Air Resources Board’s Personal Watercra ft and Out-
board marine engine 2001 exhaust emission standa rds . Engines meeting t hes e
standards have 75% lower emissions than conventional carbureted two-stroke
engines. These engines are equivalent to the U . S. EPA’s 2006 sta nda rds for
marine engines.
Two Stars – Very Lo w Emiss i on
The two-star label ide ntifies p ersonal watercraft, outboard , stern drive and in board
engines that meet the Air R es ourc es Board’ s Person al Wa terc raft and Outboard
marine engine 2004 exhaust emission stan da rds . Engines meeting these stan-
dards have 20% lower emiss ions than One Star - Low-Emission engines.
