Equi pment
Always carry the regulatory safety
items and have them conv eniently on
board available for use. Check the local
regulations or cons ult your authoriz ed
Sea-Doo dealer. Such required safety
items usually include, without limi ta-
tion, a s ound signaling dev ice s uc h as
a whistle, a watertight flashlight or ap-
proved flares, a buoyant heavin g line,
an anc hor and rope*, a bailer*, and
an appropriate fire extinguisher*. The
items ma r k ed with a “*” are not re-
quired in Canada if all persons on board
a PWC a re wea ring a PFD.
The operator a nd passenger(s) mus t
wear a Coast G uard approved Personal
Flotation Device (PFD) that is suitable
for PWC use.
The opera tor and watercraft’s pas-
senger(s) s hould have read y access
to shatterproof glasses should riding
conditions or personal prefere nc e war-
rant. Wind, water s pra y and speed
may cause a perso n’s eyes to water
andcreateblurredvision.
The operator and passenger(s) of
PWCs must wear protective clo thing,
including:
– A wet suit bottom or thick, tightly
woven, s nug fitting c lothing that
provides equiva lent protection.
Thin bike shorts for examp le w ould
not be a ppropriate. Severe inter-
nal injuries can occur if water is
forced into body cavities as a result
of falling into water or being near jet
thrust nozzle. Normal s wimwear
does not adequa tely p rot ec t against
forceful water entry into the lower
body open ing(s) of males or fe-
males.
– Footw ea r, gloves and goggles/
glasses are also recommended.
Some type of lightw eight, flexible
foot protectio n is recommended.
This will help reduc e possible injury,
should you step on sharp underwa-
ter objects.

Personal Flotation Devices (PFDs)
In ma ny countries, regulatio ns require
that you have at least one app roved
personal flotation device (PFD) for
each person on a rec rea tional w a t er-
craft an d require that all children under
13 years o f age wear a P FD at all times
when the waterc raft is underw a y. You
may not use your watercraft unless
all PFDs are in serviceabl e condition,
readily accessible, legibly marked with
the appro val number, a nd of an appro-
priate size (within the we ight ra nge and
chest size marked on the PFD) for each
person on board.
A PFD provides buoyancy to help keep
your head ab ov e the wa ter and to help
you remain in a satisfactory position
while in the water. Body weight and
age should be consid ered when se-
lecting a PFD. The buoya ncy provid ed
by the PFD s hould sup port your wei ght
in wa ter. The size o f the PFD shoul d
be appropriate for the wearer. Body
weight a nd chest size are common
methods used to size PFDs. It is your
responsibility to en su re that you have
the proper number and types of PFDs
on bo ard to comply with f ederal and
local regulations and that your passen-
gers know w here t hey are and how to
use them.
