Chapter 5 Troubleshooting
Introduction
The HX1 is a specialized RF computer. This section assumes the reader is familiar with RF
networks and components. Troubleshooting focuses on the HX1 units.
The problem may also be caused by your voice application. IPlease review the documentation
provided with that application for troubleshooting help.
Problem with one User
If a single user is experiencing trouble, investigate problems concerning that unit.
Unit is “dead”.
If the LED is not lit, check the battery connection and replace with a fresh battery
pack.
If the LED is lit, were there any messages? Try resetting the unit.
Poor battery life
Recalibrate battery in charger.
Is the unit getting an out of range message?
Does another unit work in the area? If so, suspect the unit. If not, suspect the
network backbone in that area.
Is there a problem with the antenna connector or cable? If so, replace with known
good parts.
Verify network settings (SSID, WEP keys) are correct.
Is the user unable to hear messages?
Check the headset cable connectors. Look for damaged or frayed cables. Inspect
quick connect fittings.
Try a different headset, adapter cable, etc. Replace with known good parts.
Is the user’s speech not recognized?
Check the headset cable connectors. Look for damaged or frayed cables. Inspect
quick connect fittings.
Try a different headset, adapter cable, etc. Replace with known good parts.
The user may need to retrain with the voice application (see documentation for that
application).
How much background noise is present? The voice application may have a
provision for background noise (see documentation for that application).
