Chapter 4 Configuring, managing, and customizing Perceive 129
Creating data sources
The Manage Data Sources page lets you create the following data source types:
Visualizer for Oracle - Distributed Systems, zSeries, iSeries - page 129
Visualizer for SQL Server (not shown on UNIX) - Distributed Systems, zSeries,
iSeries - page 131
Visualizer for Access (not shown on UNIX) - Distributed Systems, zSeries, iSeries -
page 132
Visualizer custom configuration - Distributed Systems, zSeries, iSeries - page 134
Console Universal Data Repository - page 135
Agent History - page 136
The following subsections detail how to create data sources for each of these types.
For more information on data source connection order and priority, refer to
“Specifying the data source priority” on page 145.
For more information on the fields, configured at installation time, refer to Chapter 1,
“Installing Perceive.”
Creating Visualizer data sources for Oracle
NOTE
The required information for creating data sources depends on the data source type. When
you are creating any type of data source, if you are not sure what value to enter in a field
(other than priority) and the field already has a default value displayed, you can accept that
value.
NOTE
In order to run Tomcat as a Microsoft Windows service, you must first ensure that Visualizer
data sources are defined as system DSN data sources and not user DSN data sources. For
more information on starting Perceive based on the Tomcat configuration settings specified in
the installation utility, refer to “Starting, stopping, and uninstalling on a Windows system” on
page 50.
NOTE
Consult your Oracle database administrator for the user name, password, host, port, and
database-instance.
