The analyst’s role in Perceive
Performance analysts play an integral role in their computer system environment.
Many analysts are performance system experts, and must use and customize Perceive
to help determine the health of the computer environment and satisfy their customers
(the consumers). Analysts can be performance managers, or capacity planners.
As an analyst in the performance planning environment, you are probably in charge
of setting up and configuring views to better report system status and respond to
customer needs. You might also have the authority to reject or accept enhancement
requests by your system administrators.
Because some analysts might also administer system management tools, they have to
perform additional administrative functions, such as designing the Perceive layout,
or configuring data sources.
This chapter details how analysts can customize views in Perceive. If you perform
administrative functions, you might consider reading this chapter in conjunction with
the administrator chapter to determine similar functions available to both types of
users. For information specific to administrators, refer to Chapter 4, “Configuring,
managing, and customizing Perceive.”
