Installation requirements for Windows systems
Chapter 1 Installing Perceive 27
For more details and access to patches, see the Sun Java J2SE Patch Requirements site.
Installation requirements for Windows
systems
Before you install Perceive on Microsoft Windows, ensure that:
■ You are a member of a local administrator group.
■ You have the required disk space on the computer and selected drive on which
you are installing the product. Perceive requires at least 70 MB of disk space on the
drive where you install the software.
■ The path environment variable on your system is not beyond the acceptable length
of 1,023 characters. If the path is too long, a warning message displays when you
start the Perceive installation and you will not be able to continue.
■ If you run Tomcat as a service on Windows (strongly recommended), all Visualizer
ODBC entries are defined as system DSN data sources and not user DSN data
sources. Tomcat is installed to run as a service by default on Windows systems.
Installing Perceive in a Windows environment
When you install Perceive on a system where a Performance Console is already
installed, Visualizer and UDR data are available, and historical data can be accessed
from remote Perform agents managed by that console.
You can install Perceive as a stand-alone component, that is, without the presence of a
Performance Manager installed on that system. Such a configuration relies on access
to Visualizer or UDR data through NFS (network file system), as well as historical
data available from Performance agents.
NOTE
Before you begin the installation process, ensure that all pre-installation and system
requirements are met. Refer to “Installation and system requirements” on page 21.
