Starting Perceive when Tomcat is not installed as a service
52 Perceive Getting Started
In order to run Tomcat as a Windows service, you must first ensure that all Visualizer
and ODBC DSN data sources are
system, not user DSN data sources. If Tomcat is
running as a service, the service opens in
Start => Settings => Control Panel =>
Administrative Tools => Services
as Perceive.
To verify the service is running on Windows 2000, choose
Start => Settings => Control
Panel => Administrative Tools => Services.
Starting Perceive when Tomcat is not installed as a service
To start Perceive if Tomcat was not installed as a Windows service, you must first
start the Tomcat Web Server as detailed in the following sections. If Tomcat is
running as a service, the service opens in the services control panel applet as Perceive.
To start Perceive
Choose Start => Programs => BMC PATROL => Perceive => Start Perceive.
To start Perceive in Debug Mode
Run
<InstallDir>\CWA\jakarta-tomcat-4.0.3\bin\perceive-debug-start.bat
script.
Stopping the Tomcat Web Server
Use the following procedures to stop the Tomcat Web Server.
To stop Perc eive
Choose Start => Programs => BMC PATROL => Perceive => Stop Perceive.
NOTE
To start Tomcat automatically after installation, select both the Install Tomcat as a Service
and Start Tomcat at the end of this installation check boxes during the installation process.
The service starts as soon as the installation is complete.
NOTE
If you have stopped the Tomcat Web Server, do not attempt to restart it before the service has
stopped, or an error message displays. You must let the service stop first.
