FLIGHT PATH MARKER
NOTE: The Flight Path Marker is not available when the cross-pointer (X-Pointer) flight director format is
selected.
TheFlightPathMarker(FPM),alsoknownasaVelocityVector,isdisplayedonthePFDatgroundspeeds
above30knots.TheFPMdepictstheapproximateprojectedpathoftheaircraftaccountingforwindspeed
anddirectionrelativetothethree-dimensionalterraindisplay.
TheFPMisalwaysavailablewhentheSyntheticTerrainfeatureisinoperation.TheFPMrepresentsthe
directionoftheightpathasitrelatestotheterrainandobstaclesonthedisplay,whiletheairplanesymbol
representstheaircraftheading.
TheFPMworksinconjunctionwiththePathwaysfeaturetoassistthepilotinmaintainingdesiredaltitudes
anddirectionwhennavigating aightplan.When oncourseandaltitudethe FPMisalignedinside the
pathwayboxesasshown(Figure8-7).
TheFPMmayalsobeusedtoidentifyapossibleconictwiththeaircraftightpathanddistantterrainor
obstacles.Displayedterrainorobstaclesintheaircraft’sightpathextendingabovetheFPMcouldindicate
apotentialconict,evenbeforeanalertisissuedbyHTAWS.However,decisionsregardingterrainand/or
obstacleavoidanceshouldnotbemadeusingonlytheFPM.

ZERO PITCH LINE
TheZeroPitchLineisdrawncompletelyacrossthedisplayandrepresentstheaircraftattitudewithrespect
tothehorizon.Itmaynotalignwiththeterrainhorizon,particularlywhentheterrainismountainousor
whentheaircraftisownathighaltitudes.
